Let's Discuss Antique Lighting: what about the beginning of light?
To discuss the beginning of light and how it has evolved over the years, even over the centuries, we must go all the way back. It may come as a surprise to many of us, but light is one of the first things ever invented. And because of that, it seems fitting to go all the way back to the beginning of lighting, and that's definitely way back. Back as far as creation itself, in fact.
In Genesis, in the first chapter of the first book of the Bible, it says: "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness."
Those things created in the first six days contained pretty much everything mankind needs to live on this earth. I find it so interesting that "light" is so important that it was the first thing created after heaven and earth.
That's what the first book of the Old Testament has to say about light. But what about the New Testament? Is it mentioned there?
Amazingly, the first book of the New Testament, and also the very first chapter, talks about TRUE light: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. ... That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."
